A bank of stem cells for veterinary use that will help dogs, cats and equines was recently created in Rio de Janeiro by Cellen, a resident company of Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator. Although Cellen is not selling stem cells yet, it is already storing the material and planning on selling it soon. The stem cells are hoped to help treat animals with paralysis, hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, problems with tendons and ligaments, atopic dermatitis, dry keratoconjunctivitis, autoimmune diseases such as type I diabetes, lupus, among other diseases.
