LabOceano, a laboratory of the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (Coppe/UFRJ) housed in the UFRJ Science Park, launched a simulation system of sea currents on December 19. This was the result of a partnership established with Petrobras, who had invested R$ 18.8 million in a project that cost R$ 22 million (the other R$ 3.2 million came from Finep, a Studies and Projects Financial Supporter). The investment will help create a more realistic environment of the exploration and extraction of oil in deep water (in both post-salt and pre-salt layers). In addition, the simulations created at the LabOceano have an application in the area of the renewable energies that sea waves offer.
