On February 18-22, the UFRJ Science Park hosted the 1st School of Data Science of the University, which is a project of the Institute for Mathematics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro together with the Science Park. The school attracted 180 students and approached recent topics in the area of data science, such as statistics, computation and applied mathematics. Also, in the following week, a Workshop on Statistics and Mathematics for Innovation took place in the Park, where authentic case studies were discussed upon requests by the industry and government bodies that are interested in the use of quantitative methods for solving the kind of problems they deal with on a daily basis.
