On August 22, Ambev brewery opened at the UFRJ Science Park its new research and development center, the most advanced of the AB InBev group, of which it is a part. The CIT (Centro de Inovação e Tecnologia – Innovation and Technology Center) Brewery, which had investments around R$ 180 million, is tasked with developing new beers, recipes, packaging and other beverages. Moreover, new products have been developed in the Brewery, as the newly-launched SKOL HOPS, which has just received a prize, the Country Winner Award in the Hop Pilsner category, at the World Beer Awards 2018, considered the beer world cup. According to the company, the vocation of the Science Park for innovation and research and the proximity with a top university were the major appeals to choose the Park as the place to install the CIT. For the Park, the arrival of Ambev reinforces the institution’s strategy of investing in the diversity of its research activities.
